Splitzy is a shared-expense tracker run by Parash Gupta. This page explains what we store, why, who can see it, and how to get it deleted. Questions or requests: splitzy.co.in@gmail.com.
What we collect
Your account. Your name, email address and password (stored only as a cryptographic hash, never in readable form). Optionally a phone number and a profile photo. Your preferred currency, language and notification settings. The date you signed up and when you last signed in.
If you sign in with Google, Google sends us your name, email address, Google account identifier and profile picture. We never receive your Google password.
What you record in the app. Groups you create or join, expenses (their description, amount, currency, category, date, any notes, and receipt images you upload), payments you record between people, comments, and a log of actions taken in your groups so members can see what changed.
Your devices. If you allow notifications, we store the push token your phone's operating system gives us, and whether it is Android, iOS or web, so we can send you notifications. Deleting the app or signing out removes it.
Technical records. Sign-in tokens so you stay signed in, and ordinary server logs kept by our hosting providers, which include your IP address.
We do not use advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
Who can see what you record
This is the part people most often want to be sure about: anything you add to a group is visible to every member of that group — the expense, the amount, the notes, any receipt you attach, and your name and photo beside it. Expenses you record with a friend outside a group are visible to that friend. If you invite someone by email, they see who invited them and the group's name.
Nobody outside your groups and friends can see your data. Our administrators can access the database to operate and support the service.
Why we use it
To run the service: keeping your expenses, working out who owes whom, and showing your balances. To send transactional email — group invitations, password resets, and (if you leave the switch on) a weekly reminder when you owe someone. To send push notifications you have opted into. To keep accounts secure and investigate abuse. To meet legal obligations.
You can turn email and push notifications off at any time in Settings. Transactional messages such as password resets are not affected.
Who we share it with
We use service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract, only to provide the service: cloud hosting and database providers for the application and its data, Google for Sign in with Google and Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications), and an email delivery provider for the messages above. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and the expenses in it for as long as your account exists, because other members of your groups rely on those records. Sign-in tokens expire automatically. Deleted expenses are marked deleted and removed from view; they are cleared from backups as those backups age out.
Deleting your data
Email splitzy.co.in@gmail.com from the address on your account and we will delete it within 30 days. We will tell you when it is done.
One thing to know: expenses you added to a shared group are part of other members' records too. When we delete your account we remove your personal details and your name stops appearing; the amounts stay in the group's history so everyone else's balances still add up.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, correct anything wrong, delete your account, or withdraw consent for notifications. Write to splitzy.co.in@gmail.com; that address is also the point of contact for any complaint about how we handle your data. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK you may also complain to your data protection authority.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Passwords are stored hashed. Sign-in tokens are held in your device's secure storage. No service can promise perfect security, and we will tell affected users promptly if we ever discover a breach of their data.
Children
Splitzy is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for anything significant, tell you in the app or by email.
